Dear Families,
Families, the Virtus “Empowering God’s Children Program” is a requirement from our Bishop that aims to ensure everyone in the Diocese is on the same page about how best to keep our children safe. Sacred Heart Academy prioritizes the safety of our students and works hard to ensure that everyone who works with children at the Academy understands our policies and procedures.
As part of the Virtus program, there are lessons that the Bishop has asked to be taught once each semester. Sacred Heart Academy believes strongly that parents are the primary and principal educators of their children. You are in the best position to know the needs of your children. You are in the best position to ensure that your children are being raised in the faith and that they are growing up in a culture of mutual respect, safety, and virtue formation.
In particular, we believe that friendship is vitally important to living a good life, to being formed as a Catholic and living the transformation brought by Jesus Christ. Because of this belief, the Academy has chosen, from among the Virtus lessons, to emphasize friendship. Again, as the parent of your child, you know best what he or she needs in relation to friendship. You might consider this an opportunity to start, or continue, a conversation with your child about his or her friendships at the Academy. We welcome your thoughts and collaboration about how we might best support your child’s development in friendship.
The Virtus lessons are now available on our website under “Virtus training” on the parent dashboard. Please take the time to go over the designated lesson with you child(ren) by December 15th, 2025. If you wish to opt-out of the Virtus lesson process, please notify the homeroom/Household teacher by December 15th, 2025.
Thank you for your time and attention to this process.
In His Most Sacred Heart,
Sean Nolan, Headmaster
