Mary Ludwig
2nd Grade
“Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.” – J.R.R. Tolkien
Miss Ludwig grew up in Dimondale, Michigan, a small town outside of Lansing. She is the third oldest of a homeschooling Catholic family of eleven children. Miss Ludwig dual enrolled during her senior year of high school at Lansing Community College, and then went on to attend Grand Valley State University for four and a half years, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and English. As part of her coursework, she completed her Michigan Teaching Certificate. Miss Ludwig started working with children as a high schooler, doing various babysitting jobs and volunteering at a summer camp annually. In between college semesters, she worked summer jobs at different childcare centers. She also tutored at Sylvan Tutoring Center for a semester, assisting students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. During her time at GVSU, she did a semester of student teaching where she took on many of the responsibilities of a full-time teacher including lesson planning, classroom management, and parental communication. Most recently, she has been working as a missionary with University Christian Outreach at Grand Valley. Her time as a missionary has allowed her many different opportunities to share her faith and teach others about Christianity. As she joins the Sacred Heart Academy faculty, she sees this as invaluable experience for the wonderful task of teaching students about the Catholic faith, and especially for helping prepare her second grade students to receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time. Miss Ludwig lives in Grand Rapids with three other wonderful Christian women. She enjoys singing and playing piano, guitar, and flute. One of her favorite pastimes is playing competitive volleyball. She considers herself a competitive person in general, and loves to follow her favorite sports teams, especially the Michigan Wolverines! Miss Ludwig also loves reading and hiking amidst the beauty of God’s creation.
